Ok yes, the whole country is in a state of flux and we were out of the Euros in no time… but chin up Blighty, it’s not all bad! There’s a whole season of goodness on our screens (and if you’re lucky, to watch in the stands) because 2016 houses a glorious summer of sport with a huge range of events to keep you entertained right up until the end of August.
Looking for games on home soil? Head for the hallowed cricket grounds of Lords in July or join the roaring crowds at the Rugby Challenge Cup Final in August. Across the pond, don’t miss the Olympic Games in Rio from 5th August – providing three weeks of back-to-back sporting stardom. - 18TH JUNE: A week after her 90th birthday, HRH Queen Elizabeth II celebrated a Royal win at Ascot with her horse Dartmouth in the Hardwicke Stakes
- 26th JUNE: Argentina defeated the Netherlands and won the Women’s Hockey Champions Trophy for the 7th time – a world record
- 3RD JULY: Lewis Hamilton celebrated his 46th F1 victory in the Austrian Grand Prix, which was also the 250th win in Formula One by a British driver since the championship began in 1950
- 5th JULY: Victory for England! Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 73 helped Britain win by eight wickets before the England V Pakistan game at Lords
- 10th JULY: Portugal win the 2016 Euros, beating the hosts and making history; this was their first win against France since 1975
