Fabulous fashion blogger Gabrielle from A Glass of Ice dishes her very best style advice on the boldest hue of the season, with lashings of glamour. Don't be a shrinking violet this Christmas - here's how to wear red!
One minute we were busy buying pumpkins ready to carve, the next we were all out in the freezing cold watching fireworks light up the sky, and now we’re knee-deep in all things festive. Christmas has well and truly arrived and it’s brought a ton of feel-good factors with it. The special occasions, the parties, the food, the decorations, the music and of course, the fashion! This month’s issue of Elle Magazine embraces the festive season in a reserved way. I’ll admit, I’m not the best at holding myself back from Christmas and will, at the first opportunity, excitably
discuss mince pie recipes and Christmas party outfits. With this in mind, it’s been fun making my way through the magazine to see their interpretation of this special time of year. One thing in particular stood out - the colour red. When it comes to both fashion and beauty, the colour red features heavily and shies away from everything but being bold. Very, very bold!A few simple ways of bringing the colour into your December wardrobe include loud chunky knit jumpers paired with denim, or layered over slip dresses. Short skirts in corduroy, velvet or leather. Or if that all sounds like a bit too much for a roast dinner sat opposite your nan, opt for applying the colour red to your accessories. When you’re next out ticking gifts off your Christmas shopping list, keep an eye out for red statement ankle boots, trending kitten heels, or even simple velvet flats to be worn around the house when guests come over for mulled wine. Other accessories that wear the colour red well also include gloves, hats, handbags and belts.
Still wary of looking too loud? Elle Magazine’s Red beauty edit has got you covered on how to wear red! We all know Christmas is the perfect time of year to embrace a red lip, but how about trying a new blush in a hot red shade? Bold red manicure? Better yet, you could push the boat out with a festive red eyeshadow complete with glitter in the corners of the eyes and a fierce feline flick. Pick one area of your face to showcase your newfound love of the festive colour and it could be the perfect finishing touch to your festive party look. Elle Magazine’s subtle approach to the festive season has proven to be packed full with inspiration. I’ll definitely be injecting more of the colour red into my December wardrobe. Personally, I’ll be reaching for my favourite faux furs, fierce red stiletto boots (that were absolutely not made for walking) and a final festive pop of red on the lips! Merry Christmas!
