We always think about layering up our clothes when the weather turns colder, but it’s also a great time to make sure that our homes are kept lovely and warm too. Inspired by the COSY issue of Elle Decoration magazine, Victoria from The Style Journal shares a pattern for a gorgeous grey oversized cable knit blanket to keep you warm at home this winter.
As the winter nights roll in and the leaves start to crisp up under foot, there’s nothing I love more than a winter project to keep me feeling inspired.
After receiving the COSY issue of Elle Decoration, I fell in love with their feature on ‘The New Cosy’. This was all the inspiration I needed for my winter project thanks to their article on layering up using pale greys.
For me, quintessential winter afternoons involve good tea from a china tea set, a book I can’t put down and a family heirloom blanket to curl up underneath on my big marshmallow bed, and what better way to carry on this tradition than by making my own?
I chose to use alpaca for this piece, due to the softness, in fact alpaca can often be worn directly next to the skin without the prickly irritation associated with lambswool.
It is extremely warm, strong and there is no lanolin in alpaca, which means much lower risk of allergic skin reactions. It can also retain its softness, brightness and lustre for decades, making it perfect for an heirloom piece.
Here’s the pattern for this cosy blanket I have been knitting, as inspired by their article . . .
