Vicky Myers from Vicky Myers Creations reviews Reloved magazine – her number one source for upcycling inspiration.
I love creating – there’s something magical about the process of transforming something old into something new using your own hands. Personally this brings me great satisfaction. The creative process is absorbing, relaxing, fun, stimulating and stretches your mind.
But it's not always that cheap – this is one of the reasons why I love refashioning, repurposing and upcycling! Although I’m at my most comfortable with my trusted sewing machine, I love the inspiration Reloved magazine brings me to try my hand at different crafts. The mag is packed with tutorials and ‘how to’s from specific projects to general techniques. The tutorials are clear to understand and tempt you to have a go, and the projects feel do-able – always a plus!
For some time I have had a kernel of an idea to patchwork together fabric scraps and remnants to reupholster a chair – I have no excuse now, as a recent Reloved edition has a tutorial for recovering a chair. The magazine has even encouraged my husband to pick up some tools and try his hand at something new – following a tutorial, he’s created a lampshade from old photo slides. We found some great slides of flowers on the internet, so when the lamp is turned on all the flowers are lit up.
Reloved also features inspirational homes and designers. I don’t know about you but I love a nosey around other people’s homes, which always brings inspiration for trying out a new look. I find the features on designers especially interesting, as I love to read how people have developed their career and what motivates them.
The magazine keeps the reader up-to-date in the upcycling field. It highlights trends, people worth following, and previews upcoming events. Some of my favourite blogs have been featured, and I’ve discovered many more worth checking out for yet further great reading – great value!
All in all Reloved is an inspired by a fabulous read. Check it out!
